Maserati On A Recall Spree

Maserati seems to be issuing quite a few recalls recently with troubles starting last May. A recall was issued for over 26,000 Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans, then there was another one in November for faulty backup cameras. The following month saw a recall for 326 Ghiblis and Quattroportes due to rear wheels that could lock up.

Things aren’t looking up for the Italian manufacturer this year when they had to issue two separate recalls due to the risk of fire. Now Maserati is recalling the 3,299 Levante SUVs because a software issue. According to Autoguide, when the Levante is cruising at around 2 mph in heavy traffic the transmission may shift into neutral by itself or the engine could shut off without warning, thus increasing the risk of a crash.

Of course dealers will fix the engine control module at no cost, but the main point to be made is that Maserati needs the Levante to be a success. Expected to be Maserati’s bread and butter, the Trident’s first go at an SUV could have an effect on the brand’s future models including the Alfieri.

Hopefully, Maserati gets a handle on its safety issues so the Levante can become a success.

This is why I always stayed away at first. Maserati makes some nice vehicles but are always subject to this and its sad. I bet if you were to look back at sales numbers, they got better sales months after release as consumer confidence grew. If they keep this up, Porsche is getting my money. I hope you suits at Maserati are reading this.

You do realize Porsche has issued a few recalls this year as well right...?

If a backup camera fault and a transmission issue are enough to get you to jump ship, you'll probably run out of ships to jump to real soon.

The difference is the Porsche has had more time on the market, in the hands of consumers. So, what's know about the Porsche is far more powerful than what we're dealing with here, a first for the brand. Its the one important thing Porsche has over Maserati.
