Yet Another Release Date

Read this today:

Maserati has confirmed that the full EV model is the second powertrain the Alfieri will be carrying. That's after the twin-turbo v6 makes its debut in 2019.

This is like a yo-yo, too many confirmations on dates and details that change every month.

Smart move on their part to go this direction which could see it being a success, maybe better than vehicles that have come before it. The Cadillac ELR was a failure and sort of fit into this GT EV segment.

Information leading up to about 2 years before it does go on sale will be spotty, nothing solid, so it's more of us stitching together what we know and having that confirmed by what comes out the closer we get to its release.

The other thing we should be hearing about is a hybrid powertrain.

Hitting all three will be the magic thing to do. twin-turbo full gasoline, hybrid, and full EV. Hit every aspect of the market and you have a gorgeous product.

Something hybrid or EV is necessary at this point of the industry

Hitting all three when the time is right is what's most important and I feel that's often what results in certain products not coming to market as soon as they should.

I agree. That's why you see certain trends in the market and it's kinda rare to see a car come out randomly when it's segment isn't booming. There's that and when manufacturers know they have something real good (a step above their competitors), they'll wait for it them to come out and then drop theirs to be on top of the game.

It's all baby steps. An example although not a great one is the Audi R8. It started off as a V8. Audi did deep dive into something crazy but once the product proved itself they moved onto a V10 and now look at how long it has come.

In those baby steps when your dealing with high dollar R&D is managing risk of that money. So when you see it from the manufacturers perspective that end of it makes sense.

The R8 definitely came a long way from when it was first introduced. A lot of people are under the impression that manufacturers just don't have a budget and build whatever they want, but the fact of the matter is they do have a budget and need to be conscious of that. Spreading it out makes more overall sense in the expenses and income of it, both ways.

Almost any brand does, even Apple even though they have $50 billion in liquid cash to buy whatever company they want. Toyota is another example. Most of these brands keep the risk of that liquidity very low.

Just because they have it doesn't mean they want to spend it. That and considering they are anticipating models way down the line in the future. It's all managing what you have and that's all it is. It's a business. Period.

Well yeah that's my point lol, they only need to risk so much out of all they have. Otherwise they would be in deep waters if that wasn't the case. Not often do you see brands like this taking big risks. And if there's any business that's really risky its the automotive business. Hundreds of millions invested into a single product that should hopefully sell well over its lifetime.
