Maserati Alfieri Delayed

After reading an article on MotorAuthority, it seems that the Maserati Alfieri will not be in our driveways until maybe.... 2020, if that. Unfortunately it seems there's still quite a bit to work out which means a delay is definitely in order. Initially it was expected to meet the deadline of 2018 but those hopes and dreams are currently crashed and burning.

Quote:
Speaking with Autocar, Giulio Pastore, the person in charge of Maserati’s European division, said key decisions on the platform and final look of the car are yet to be taken. The British publication reported that the decisions might not be made until 2018, which means production isn’t likely to start until 2020—at the earliest.

Pastore revealed that Maserati would instead focus on the launch of a new GranTurismo, along with a new GranTurismo Convertible. Under the previous plans, the GranTurismo Convertible was to be dropped in favor of a convertible version of the Alfieri-based sports car.

I had a feeling this would be the case since this whole time all we seen is a concept and you can even say the concept isn't 100% alfieri but instead it could be part of a design exercise covering many to be Maserati models.

On the plus side it gives GT owners enough time to enjoy and get rid of their GT's before the Alfieri comes out without much worry for drastic depreciation.

There definitely is still a good chunk of time to enjoy them before the Alfie comes about. Not to say an even more extensive delay can't happen. There could be a ton load of more time.

On another note Masearti is lucky that the market this will be competing in is still somewhat new, giving them a bit of an advantage, maybe something that will age better than what's currently out. Or they could be playing catch up with just about everything, features, sales, you name it.

It's generally one of the two ends of that spectrum. From concept photos, it seems like it will age very darn well. That being said, we have to see something close to a production model first and see what kind of tech is going to be offered with it. Things are changing at a pretty good pace these days so it's going to be tough.

Well, on the tech end, that's easier to figure out since by looking at what Maserati is already doing, we'll have a good portion of it figured out. It's all the other things that don't get carried over throughout an entire line up we have to question.

Can't really think of what they're already doing, the most I think we can take is the general layout. In 4-6 years there's definitely going to be a lot more tech coming out and being implemented into vehicles of this caliber. As it is though, their interiors are pretty basic. Their dash/hvac button area looks tremendously old school so hopefully that all gets redesigned.

When the Alfieri finally arrives after the delay, buyers in Saskatchewan can get one without travelling out of Province because Maserati is opening the first dealerships there in the city of Saskatoon. That brings the amount of dealerships in Canada to nine.

Glad to see that Maserati is making that move but overall it shouldn't be that hard for car makers to reach out to customers. With the use of an APP and service on demand through an APP, it can be done. Some car makers are already planning for such a move.

I believe some brands offer pickup and drop off services so owners won't even have to leave the comforts of their homes to have their vehicles serviced. But there's always a rick in my mind when someone else is driving my cars. Who's to say the drivers didn't redline the cars?
