Neptune But MB is now turning to hybrids. Everyone has to in order to keep up with regulations. And performance isn't an excuse. It has already been done by other brands so it is possible.

BlackGold It's especially weird since I thought they were at this point that changes like this would elevate them. Maybe they see the case for sticking to traditional powerplants, but changing everything else. For MB that has proven true at least.

Neptune Yea, I think its a missed opportunity.

BlackGold That sucks since hybrid power can help to bring levels of power needed in sports cars, just look at what some of the top supecar makers are up to right now. Then scaling it down, brands like Lexus and Infiniti.

A Hybrid Maserati Alfieri is NOT Going to happen

The auto industry has seen more and more hybrid and electric models recently, and these models are not just commuter vehicles, they can be found in the performance segments as well. So Maserati has reluctantly decided to join the rest of the industry in creating hybrid (but not fully electric) vehicles. Surely there are some Maserati fans that will be happy to have the option, but from what I have read online, it appears that customers are resistant to any hybrid Maserati. Here is just one comment:

Quote:
Can't they just leave their cars as they are and rebadge some Fiat 500s? Isn't that what Aston Martin did with Toyota?
If you fall into the "no hybrids for Maserati" camp, then you may breathe a sigh a relief when you learn that the only Maserati model that will not be getting a hybrid version is the Alfieri. That means that dealerships should have hybrid versions of the Ghibli, GranCabrio, GranTurismo and Quattroporte by 2020.

If Maserati customers are not enthused about the advent of hybrids for the brand, why is Maserati doing it?

The reason is two-fold. First, of all major auto brands, FCA has the worst emissions ratings. This causes them to spend a lot of money on buying carbon credits from other companies (like Tesla) and is a massive drain on the brand's already strained finances.

Second, with most competitors embracing alternative fuels, even with their performance models, if Maserati were to resist joining the herd, they would also potentially lose many customers who are looking for hybrid performance vehicles.

Having said all that, remember, the Alfieri isn't getting a hybrid anyway.
